Bio

The following bio was provided by member Ethel ---------------------------- Frederick P. Vap of McCook, age 71, died Wednesday at the Community Hospital of McCook. Mr. Vap was born Feb. 22, 1910 north of Atwood, Kan. To the late Fred and Frances Vap. He grew up on a farm north of Atwood and came to McCook in 1935. He started Vap’s McCook Seed and Hardware Company and was active in the business until his death. Mr. Vap was married at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Frontier County July 26, 1938 to Irene Jane Traphagan. They have made MCCook their life’s home. June 20, 1953, Mr. Vap received the Aksarben Good Neighbor Award for establishing Midget Baseball in McCook. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of McCook; Knights of Columbus, McCook; and McCook Elks Lodge 1434. Survivors include his wife, Irene of McCook; four sons, Douglas F. and Gerald I., both of McCook, Dr. J. Gordon of Chevy Chase, Md. And John T. of Loveland, Colo.; three brothers, EJ Vap of McCook, Joseph F. of Atwood, Kan., and John of Boulder, Colo.; and eight grandchildren. Rosary will be Friday at 8 pm in the Herrmann Funeral Chapel of McCook. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10:30 am in Sta. Patrick’s Catholic Church of McCook with the Rev. Peter Gadient officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery of McCook under the direction of the Herrmann Funeral Home at McCook. Memorials may be given in his name and left at the funeral home. ----------------------------
