Bio

Jimmie D. Brown, 69, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas after fighting a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was surrounded by his family. Jimmie was born April 19, 1942 in Bell County, Texas to JD and Lillie Bell Kopecky. Brown and was one of four children. He was raised in Temple, Texas and moved to Houston in 1962 where he met his wife of 48 years, Virginia Smith Brown. They moved to the South Belt area in 1971 to raise their three children. After 30 years, he retired from the Port of Houston Authority. Upon retirement, he and Virginia spent their time traveling together and loving each other. Jimmie enjoyed spending time with his family most but was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, floundering, shrimping, crabbing, and boating. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Brown; daughter, Sherry Brown Edmond; daughter and spouse, Deborah Brown Hancock and Ronald Hancock; son and spouse, Jimmie D. Brown, Jr. and Shari Curtis Brown; granddaughters, Peyton Sierra Brown, Marjorie Lynn Bell, Amber Renee Wells, and Jennifer Ashley Wells; grandson, Talmadge Wayne Hales; seven great-grandchildren; his mother, Lillie Bell Kopecky Brown; sisters, Margaret Brown Sullivan and Helen Brown Mabe; brother, Bobby Brown; many nephews, nieces, in-laws, and friends; and his best "doggie" friend, Bandit. He is preceded in death by his father, JD Brown. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 1, 2011, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Niday Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Niday Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster. Family and friends are invited to join the Brown family in celebration of Jimmie's life immediately following the burial service. It will be held at the home of Jimmie Brown, Jr. The family request that donations made "in honor of" Jimmie Brown be sent to the American Lung Association.
