A memorial celebration for the life of Daniel Houston Shawn, 66, Cayuga, was held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday at the home of his daughter Shannon Smith. Daniel died April 21, 2011 in Athens. He was born Jan. 4, 1945 in Duncan, Okla. Dan lived in Athens 10 years before moving to Cayuga 15 years ago. He formerly was employed at the K-Mart Distribution Center 15 years. Daniel served in the U.S. Navy 17 years. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed playing most of the courses in Henderson County. He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Houston Shawn. Survivors include daughter Shannon Smith and husband Joshua, Mabank; mother Rose Shawn, Athens; brother Richard Shawn, Athens; sisters Sheila Shawn, Athens, Cheryle Davis, Clarendon Hills, Ill.; nephew Joshua Shawn and wife Julie, Athens; nieces Brooke Davis and Erin Davis, both of Chicago, Ill.
