Bio
Gertie Deason, 99, died at 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Westwood Manor Nursing Home in DeRidder. Ms. Deason was born on December 25, 1910 and had resided in DeRidder her entire life. Survivors include two brothers, Leo Garner of Sugartown and Henry Garner of Haynesville, Louisiana; three sisters, Catherine Bostrom of DeRidder, Mable O'Neal of Tyler, Texas and Pauline Taylor of Port Arthur, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home of DeRidder. Funeral services will be held at Smyrna Baptist Church, 230 Smyrna Church Road, Sugartown, Louisiana at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010 beginning with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until service time with the Reverend Frank Ott, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Smyrna Cemetery in Sugartown under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of DeRidder. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneral.com.
