Bio

Melvyn "Mel" Morrow of Clovis passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at the age of 70, after a long battle with illnesses including cancer related to exposure of agent orange. He and his family have been residents of Clovis since his retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1978. Born August 16, 1940 to Lloyd and LaVonne Morrow in Fairmont, Minnesota. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1958 immediately joining the Marine Corps and marrying his high school sweetheart. He served two deployments in Vietnam and one in Okinawa as a "Minnesota Centennial Marine", with high regards. He was the epitome of "Once a Marine...Always a Marine" and "Semper Fi". After he retired from the military, he attended Fresno City College obtaining an AA degree in business and then worked the next 20 years for the IRS before permanently retiring. Mel had a love for fishing, country music, and Fox News. He spent his retirement summers fishing at Rush Lake, MN with his fishing family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all! He's Gone Fishing! Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and LaVonne; his son-in-law, David Packer; and his grandson, Sgt. Steven Packer, who was killed in Iraq in 2007. He is survived by Joelene, his wife of 52 years; his brother Dwayne of Wrightwood; his sister, Betty Ruschy of Fairmont, Mn.; his sons, Mike and Mark; his daughters, Robin Davidson and Lisa Morrow; his grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle, Brandon, Dustin, Zachary and Jason; and his great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Brayden. A Graveside Service will be held at the Clovis Cemetry District on Friday, December 17, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Oh. 45250-0301; or to the charity of your choice. CLOVIS FUNERAL CHAPEL 1302 Clovis Avenue Clovis (559)298-7536
