(Ref: CARLSBAD CURRENT-ARGUS, Carlsbad, Eddy County, New Mexico, dated for Monday, May 14, 1954, front page, reads as follows: RITES TUESDAY FOR MRS. EAST Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Beatrice East, who died Saturday in a local hospital, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. J. Melvin Ray officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens under direction of Carpenter Funeral Home with Phil Stell, Abb Raine, Dan Kilgore, Dave Miller, Ray Hobbs, and Compton Briggs as pallbearers. Born July 17, 1918, in Dilley, Tex., Mrs. East had been in poor health for some time. She is survived by her husband, Joyce East; her parents, Henry F. Tutor of Houston, Tex., and Mrs. James Cates of Artesia; two sons, Alfred Roger and Jerry Sanders, both of Carlsbad; one brother, Thomas Tutor of Carlsbad; and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Keen of Carlsbad and Mrs. Clara Mae Haley of Carlsbad.
