Services for R. D. Gibson, 88, of Huntington, were held in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington, with burial in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin, Texas Mr. Gibson was born April 13, 1915, in Gibsonville, Angelina County, Texas the son of Eula (Hudiburg) and Royal Denver Gibson; and he died Dec. 17, 2003, at his residence in Huntington. Mrs. Gibson was a retired Chemist Supervisor for Abitibi Paper Mill, following more than 50 years of service. He was a graduate of Zavalla High School, where he excelled in basketball. He was a former Mayor of the City of Huntington. He was a member of New Life United Pentecostal Church. He had resided in Angelina County all his life. Survivors: Grandson and wife, Rafe and Tabatha Gibson of Southlake,TX Former daughter-in-law, Lois Gibson of Houston, Texas Sisters: Vesta Layne Mangun of Alexandria, Louisiana Nora Lee of Dallas, Texas Nona Redd of Lufkin, Texas Brother: Clibborn Gibson of Lufkin, Texas A number of nieces, nephews and other relatives Preceded in death: Wife: Elva Lee Smith Gibson, on June 6, 2002 Son: Rayford Keith Gibson, on Sept. 15, 2003.
