The Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE) Fri., Sept 8, 1944 - Page 1 William Hiram Meester William Hiram Meester, son of Hiram and Ann Meester, was born June 15, 1871, near Forreston, Illinois. He departed this life a (sic) this home in Fairfield August 27, 1944, at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 12 days. He was united in marriage with Gertrude Sanders, September 28, 1899. To this union was born one son, Henry. His wife, Gertrude, passed away August 18, 1900. He was married July 20, 1902, to Harriet Sanders. To this union twelve children were born, five of whom died in infancy. Mr. Meester is survived by his widow, Harriet Meester; five daughters, Mrs. Minnie Koci, Edgar, Nebraska; Mrs. Ann Hoys, Fairfield, Nebraska; Mrs. Gertrude Leff, Fairfield, Nebraska; Mrs. Florence Onken, Aurora, Nebraska, and Sophia Naggats, Hastings, Nebraska, three sons, Henry of Fairfield, Cornelius in the Navy and Alfred, who is also on (sic) the United States Navy; two brothers Henry and John and one sister, Mrs. Mary Weyenberg. There are also 26 grandchildren, one of whom, William Meester, who is serving in the Merchant Marines. Mr. Meester came with his parents to Nebraska when he was a small boy. He lived on various farms in Adams and Clay counties (sic) until five years ago when he moved to Fairfield where he lived until his death. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church (sic) in Fairfield, Thursday afternoon, August 31, conducted by Rev F. L. Harris. Mrs. F. L. Harris and Mrs. Earl Young sang three hymns, "Beautiful Isle of somewhere," "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Nearer My God to Thee." The instrumental music was played by Mrs. Ray Killion.
