Beauregard Daily News (De Ridder, LA) - Tuesday, December 20, 2005 Funeral services for L.C. Bailey , 72, of DeRidder, will be at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 20, 2005 at Chaddick Funeral Home in DeRidder, with the Revs. Buddy Freeman, Alvie Bailey and Lonnie Cleveland officiating. Burial will follow in Whitaker Cemetery. Visitation will continue until service time. He died Saturday, Dec. 17, at Beauregard Memorial Hospital. He worked at the produce stand (farmer's market) on Washington Ave. and was known as the Watermelon Man. Survivors include his wife, Bertha "Birdie" Bailey of DeRidder; one daughter Lois Dale Laney of Sebec, Me.; three step-daughters, Shelia Martin of Richmond, Va., Amy Cranor of Chattanooga, Tn., and Sherry Bowman of Mechanicsville, Va.; four stepsons, Edward Painter and Johnny Williams, both of DeRidder, James Painter of Chester, Va. and Joe Williams of North Carolina; three sisters, Lucy Mae West of Rosepine, Mary Mag Beckwith of DeRidder, and Tibiotha "Sis" Gill of DeQueen, Ark.; three brothers, J.C. Bailey , Buddy Bailey and Willie Bailey , all of DeRidder; 22 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
