Eldin L. Wied son of Adolph F. and Louise Wied.Eldin L. Wied married Evelyn M. Schilling on April 10,1942. Children are: Judy Engstrom Mark Wied Melba Clapp 14 Grandchildren 3 Great-Grandchildren Eldin served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European theater.He was a member of the 961st Field Artillery Battalion,which landed at Normandy and advanced through the Battle of the Bulge into Germany and Austria as Germany surrendered.He helped liberate concentration camps as the war ended. Following his military service,the couple settled in Garwood,where he became a rancher and rice farmer for the remainder of his life.He was a lifelong member of the Garwood lions Club and the Lehrer Memorial United Methodist Church,was one of the organizers of the Farmer's Cooperative of Garwood,and was an honorary member of the American Rice Growers Association,Garwood Division. Mr.Wied passed away at his home. Funeral services were held for Eldin L. Wied,88,March 30,2007 at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev.Ardie Nelson officiating. Pallbearers were Doug Wied,Lee Higgins,Michael Higgins,David Peacock,Lance Grigar,Brad Engstrom,Randy Clapp and Michael Lanier. Honorary Pallbearers were Frank Tillman,Troy Krenek and Robert Schiurring. Memorials may be made to Lehrer Memorial United Methodist Church,Hospice or Garwood Volunteer Fire Department.
