Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, CO, 16 Jun 1988 MARTHA BEHRENS RITES JUNE 14 Martha Behrens, daughter of Herman and Louise Friedrich was born in Dixson County, Nebraska on August 15, 1900. As a small child she moved with her family to Buffalo Gap, South Dakota. There she attended school and received her education. Later she moved with her family to to Madison County, Nebraska, near Norfolk, Nebraska. On March 15, 1922 she was united in marriage to Albert Behrens and they made their home on a farm in Sedgwick County, in the Amherst and Venango communities where she resided until her death. To this union were born two daughters, Leota Burns and Eunice Prottsman. She had been baptized as a child and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Amherst and currently was one of the oldest members of the Ladies Aid of Amherst. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978, her parents, one sister and three brothers. She was a loving, sharing, caring Christian to her family and to all who knew her and a gracious example to many. She leaves to mourn her death one sister and three brothers. She leaves to mourn her death her daughters and their husbands, Leota and Dick Burns of Denver and Eunice and Wayne Prottsman of Venango, Nebraska and four grandchildren. Mrs. Behrens passed away Sunday, June 12, 1988 at the Grant Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Amherst with the Rev. John Larson officiating. Interment was at the Amherst Cemetery.
