Bio

The Walnut Leader, Walnut, Bureau County, Illinois, January 26, 1945: "A former Walnut resident, Frank D. Strouss, 74, of LaGrange, Ill., was found dead in his bed at his home there on Monday morning. Frank D. Strouss was born September 1, 1870, at Fisher, Illinois, and early in life moved with his parents to a farm near Walnut, where the family lived for many years. Later, after moving to town, Mr. Strouss was manager of the Walnut Lumber & Supply company for nineteen years. In recent years he has made his home in Dixon and Ashton, and for the past five years has lived at LaGrange, where he passed away suddenly of a heart attack. He was a zealous worker and a friend to every one. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Amelia Strouss; one son, Howard Strouss, of Deer Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Winnie Wells and Mrs. Fannie Mae Vick of Dixon; Mrs. Laverne Peach of Walnut and Mrs. Ruth Brandenburg of Moline; three brothers, Layton Strouss of Earlville; Ame Strouss of Mishawauka, Indiana; John Strouss of Tampico; one sister, Mrs. Val McDougal of Arlington Heights, Ill.; three grandsons, five granddaughters, and one great grandson; one step son and one step daughter. Services were held at two o'clock January 24th, at the Ross Funeral home with Rev. H. V. Hallock, pastor of the Walnut Christian church, officiating. The vocalists were Mrs. W. Epperson and Mrs. Everett Larson, accompanied by Mrs. Gertrude Casey at the piano. Casket bearers were Bert Wallis, C. M. Knight, Frank Hewitt, J. P. Stephens, E. H. Schwartzentraub, Wesley Peach. Burial was in the Walnut cemetery." His proper name was David Franklin Strouss.
