Jessie Leona Palat, 79, of Freeport, Texas passed away Friday, September 14, 2007, in Angleton, Texas, at Country Village Care after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. Jessie was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Anderson, Texas, to Millard and Hazel Hurt. Jessie came to the area in 1943. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Freeport. Jessie was a graduate of Freeport High School. She also attended secretarial college in Houston, Texas. She is survived by four sons, Bill Palate and wife Linda of Jones Creek, Glenn R. Palat of Freeport, Jimmy L. Palat and wife, Sue of Lake Jackson and Richard Lynn Palat Sr. and wife, Patricia, of West Columbia: four grandchildren, Stephanie Palat Anderson and husband, Jon, R.J. Palat Jr., Linsey Elizabeth Palat and Jacob Lee Palat; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Haley Anderson; one sister, Mary Neil Evelock of Dallas, Pennsylvania. Jessie was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ernest, and they resided in Freeport; her parents; one sister, Carmen Ray; and two brothers, Billie Hurt and Donald Hurt. Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and the Lakewood Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at the Lakewood Chapel with Kenneth J. Reagans officiating. Interment will follow at Gulf Prairie Cemetery in Jones Creek. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Tribble, R.J. Palat Jr., Alfred Ray, Ronnie Ray, Ray Cook, Clay Hurt and Bob Hurt. Jessie love fishing with her husband and the bay house, spending time with her grandchildren, crochet and crossword puzzles.
