Services for Willie Jeard Saxton, 76, longtime resident of the Houston area, were held Wednesday, May 12, 1999, in the Gipson-Hunter-Metcalf Chapel with burial in the Garden of memories Memorial Park. Mr. Saxton was born March 9, 1923 in Lufkin to the late Henry and Nora Saxton. He died Sunday, May 9, 1999 at his residence in Houston following a long battle with cancer. He served as a master sergeant in the U S Army during World War II (1942-1945) and was on Iwo Jima. He was a self-employed welder. He was a loving father and grandfather. He love to fish and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. Survivors: Wife Eloise Saxton Daughters, (John) Ann Saxton and Debi whalen and husband Kelly Four grandsons, David and Aaron Oubre and W. J and Kelly Whalen II Sisters, Rose Havard, Nell Austin and Almeda Weeks Several in-laws, nieces and nephews in the Lufkin area. Gipson-Hunter-Metcalf Funeral Directors.
