Bio

James "Calvin" was the son of John Calvin & Frances Lucretia (Skaggs) McFerrin. He & Dora Preston, the daughter of John & Cynthia (Vance) Preston, were married in Westminster, Collin County, TX, on August 26, 1900. Rev. James L. Lawlis performed their wedding ceremony. Their children were Callie Lee, Izora, Mittie Mary, Claude Smith, James Calvin, III, and Isom Calvin. They bought a farm near Westminster where they lived the rest of their lives. Calvin died from a ruptured appendix on Tuesday night, March 24, 1959. "Westminster - Calvin McFerrin, 79, died at his home near here Tuesday 11:45 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Westminster Church of Christ, time to be announced. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under direction of Crouch-Moore Funeral Home of McKinney. Mr. McFerrin is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Lee Clark of Anna and Mrs. Mittie Wise of Guymon, Okla.; three sons, Claude McFerrin of Denton, J.C. McFerrin of Borger, and Isom McFerrin of Dallas; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren."
