Nelson, 44, will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the West Funeral Home chapel, with Rev. H.M. (Jack) Drake, minister of the Full Gospel Church of God, officiating. Burial will be in the Carlsbad Cemetery. Nelson was born July 6, 1910 in Kent County, Tex. He died Monday at a local hospital. He came to Carlsbad from Brownfield, Tex., in 1933, and had resided on Dark Canyon road for the past 23 years. He was united in marriage to Lucille Dowell in Carlsbad on Feb. 17, 1939. Nelson was employed by the United States Potash Co. on Aug. 9, 1942, and was working as an undercutter operator. A member of the Carlsbad Potash Basin Union, Independent, Nelson had been in ill health only a short time prior to his death. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lucille Nelson, Carlsbad; his mother, Mrs. Freddy M. Williams, Carlsbad; four sons, John Henry, Fred, Jr., Edward Lee and Robert Gene, all of Carlsbad; three daughters, Dianne, Janie and Gloria Jean, all of Carlsbad; four brothers, Bill, Clark, Newton, all of Carlsbad, and H.C., Seal Beach, Calif.; and four sisters, Mrs. N.E. Holmes, Mrs. Elsie Carpenter and Mrs. J.C. Wilson, Carlsbad and Mrs. Ruby Barber, Eunice.
