From the archives of Henderson County Historical Commission Funeral services for Victor C. Smith, 77, of Eustace will be at 4 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist church in Eustace with the Rev. Earl McLaughlin and the Rev. James Kinman officiating. Burial will be in the LaRue cemetery with Carroll and Lehr Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Smith died Saturday night at a Corsicana hospital after a brief illness. He lived in and around Eustace almost all of his life, but was born in Union, Mississippi. He was a retired teacher, having taught in Henderson, Van Zandt and Kaufman counties and was a member of the Eustace Masonic Lodge No, 1199. He graduated from Sam Houston State Teacher's College and was a former Mayor of Eustace and a First Baptist Church Deacon. His first wife was the former Stella Otts and preceded him in death on June 10, 1948. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Dennis Smith of Eustace; one daughter, Mrs. Gayle McWilliams of Dallas; three brothers, Virgil E. Smith -his twin brother- of Athens, Harold L. Smith of Dallas and Robert E. Smith of Eustace; two sisters, Mrs. Garnet Graham of Eustace and Mrs. Opal Graham of Athens; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Knapp Salter, R.L. McElhaney, R.B. Graham, Leo Seabourne, Woodrow Lewis, Roy D. Frazier, Harris Ballow and Vernon McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be Horace Campbell, Arnold Graham, Ernest Owen, Billy Joe McLaughlin, Guy Pirtle, Edison Monroe, Harold Ray Griffith and C. Simmons.
