Research by Curtis Conkle shows Stella's parents as J. Albert Otts and Charlsie D. Young, New York, Tx. She was born 26 August 1902 in Royce City, Tx. and died 12 June 1948 in Athens, Tx. Published in the Athens Review June 17, 1948 Funeral services for Mrs. Stella Mary Smith, who died at her home in Park Highlands Saturday night at 6:17 o'clock after a lengthy illness, were held Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the LaRue Methodist Church. The services were conducted by the Rev. Kermit Hollingsworth, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Palestine, the Rev. Grady Hallinquist, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Cleveland, formerly of Eustace, and the Rev. R.S. Marshall, pastor of the First Methodist Church of Athens. Interment was in the LaRue Cemetery. Pallbearers were Emmett Young, Joe C. Garrett, Gordon Young, Horton Young, Joe Hendrix, Millard Rowland, Grandon Williford, Waymon D. Graham, and Terrell Dunklin. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Newbill, J.D. Martin, A.C. Norman, Guy Pirtle, Charlie Reed , Rufus McElhaney, C.E. McElhaney and Charles Peary. The Carroll & Lehr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Smith was born on August 26, 1902 in Royce City, the daughter of Mrs. Charlsie Otts and the late J. Albert Otts. She moved to Henderson County when a young woman, and on April 5, 1930, was married to Victor C. Smith at Eustace. They resided in Eustace and LaRue, and were residing in Kemp when they moved to Athens about one year ago. She was a life-long member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Gayle Smith; mother, Mrs. Charlsie Otts of Dallas; three sisters, Mrs. Maurine Garrett of Tulia, Mrs. Blanche Paggitt of Jacksonville, and Mrs. Annelle Cox of Dallas; two brothers, Boce Otts and Gilbert Otts, both of Dallas.
