Nellie Blanche Hunt Donahue Feb 8,1891-July 24,1964 Nellie Blanche Hunt Donahue, daughter of William and Sarah Jane (Songster) Hunt, was born February 8, 1891 in Wright, Ford Co. Kansas. At the age of seven years she moved with her Mother and family by covered wagon to the family tree claim at Exeter, Nebraska, her father having gone on ahead to prepare living quarters for his family. Here she grew to young womanhood, receiving her grade school education in District 91 of Fillmore Co., and graduated from the Exeter High School. In 1914 Blanche came west, again traveling by covered wagon from Merna, Nebraska to Arthur County. At this time she came to take over the homestead claim of her brother Bern, who found out that he was ineligible to take a claim on account of his age. It was in this area of the Sandhills that Blanche's sister Maude, her Great Uncle Joseph Smith and his grandson Jess Dodge had also taken homesteads. Blanche taught school in Arthur County until her marriage Sept. 5, 1918 to Ralph Edward Donahue at the home of her sister, Maude Cochran. To this union three children were born, Arlene, Dwight and Lucille, The Donahues ranched in Arthur County until 1935 when they moved to Ogallala, Nebraska where Mr. Donahue owned the Auto Parts Co. of Ogallala until his death in 1946. Two years after the death of her husband "Doc" Blanche moved to York, Nebraska to be near her relatives. When her health failed in May of 1964 she was forced once again to move to western Nebraska. Here she lived with her two daughters until she entered the Ogallala Community Hospital and passed away July 24, 1964. In her early childhood she joined the Baptist Church at Exeter later transferring her membership to the Arthur Baptist Church. During her residence in Ogallala she joined the Congregational church, since there wasn't a Baptist church there at the time. While in York she was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. She was also a member of the Rebekahs while in Ogallala. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 28, 1964 at 10 a.m. from the Congregational Church of Ogallala with the Rev. Louis G. Poppe officiating. Interment was in the Ogallala Cemetery.
