Texas Birth Index, 1903-1997 Ben A. Wester, 49, a maintainer operator for Commissioners Precinct No. 1 Collin County was killed Monday shortly before noon when a bridge on which he was working collapsed, pinning him under it. The incident occurred a short distance south of Weston, Texas. Wester's home was about a mile southeast of Celina. Injured in the accident were Roy Record and Tom Medcalf of McKinney, Texas. The men were jacking up the bridge when it slipped from the jack and collapsed. Mr. Wester was dead on arrival at Collin Memorial Hospital. Mr. Wester was born on a farm NE of Celina on October 19, 1911, son of W. S. and Mary T. Wester. He had lived in the Celina, Texas area all of his life. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bethel Baptist Church, Rev. J. T. Bledsoe pastor officiating assisted by Rev. Jack May of Celina, Texas. Burial followed in Cottage Hill Cemetery directed by Morgan Scott Funeral Home of Celina, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Lavasa; two daughters, Mrs. Cecil Norris and Mrs. Johnny Roller, Jr., both of Celina, Texas; a brother, Paul Wester of Rt. 1 Gunter, Texas; a half-brother, Hershell Wester of Portland, Oregon; three half-sisters, Mrs. Minnie Douglas of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Mary E. Tillerson of Sherman, Texas and Mrs. Mattie Glynn of Arizona and his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Wester of Celina, Texas. Pallbearers were Johnny May, Johnny Howell, Joe Span, Joe Merritt, Clarence Hundley and Loren Yates. The victim's wife had left Sunday morning with a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Carey to visit relatives in Tennessee. Upon learning of the tragedy, she returned immediately by plane.
