Masonic Emblem on Marker
Civil War Marker photo by Geneva Johnson has incorrect information. This was the wrong Richard Arnold. There is a newer marker at gravesite that shows that Richard Arnold, Private, Company I, 45th Regiment, Arkansas Cavalry, Confederate States Army. He appears on a Muster and Descriptive Roll of prisoners of war belonging to the Army of the Northern Sub-District of Arkansas. He was paroled at Jacksonport, Arkansas on June 5, 1865, at the age of 21. He enlisted at Augusta, Arkansas. His description was: Eyes: black; Hair: black; Complexion: dark; Height: 5 feet, 8 inches; Where born: Alabama. He told his family that he enlisted at the age of 16 years. Richard was a Royal Arch Mason and a charter member of the Voss Lodge #1001, Coleman County, Texas and served that lodge as Treasurer in 1910-1912-1914. He was involved in the building of the Voss Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge (which was on the second floor). Infant Twin Boys were born and died between 1900- 1902 in Texas. Richard and Caroline were traveling from Ellis County, Texas to south Texas looking for land to purchase. It is not known where the twins are buried. Information provided by Mary Arnold Brillhart.
