She had one brother Robert Fuller Chambers and three sisters Letha, Martha Jane and Julia Hannah. After the death of their parents, the children were found in 1870, living with their uncle, Edward Chambers, with the exception of Martha Jane, who had married David Mason and remained in Tennessee. Mary Frances married Archie Thompson about 1871 and was the mother of seven children, Flora, Elizabeth Ruth, Lucy E, Susan Archie, May Letha, John C "Jim" and Paul Clinton.
