Lucretia Jane Howard McCorkle is the daughter of Richard Earl Howard and Eliza Brown Pettit. She married Archibald K. (H.) McCorkle in Saline County, MO on December 20, 1855. Four daughters were born to this couple: Mary Virginia, Elizabeth Demarius, Frances, and Anna. Archibald K. (H.) McCorkle was wounded in the Battle for Atlanta during the War Between the States. He died September 12, 1864 while in the hospital in Macon, GA. He is interred in Macon at the Rose Hill Cemetery. After the death of her husband, Lucretia married a second time to Jacob (or Joseph) Hard on December 18, 1872 in either Denton or Collin County, TX. Verbal and written family history states she died in childbirth with a son, Joshua Sidney Hard, on November 20, 1874. However, Joshua Sidney Hard's death certificate states he was born on November 4, 1873. Lucretia is buried as Lucretia McCorkle and lies next to her parents, Richard and Eliza Howard, in Scott Cemetery, Collin County, TX. The original stone for Lucretia was broken and scattered. A new marker for Lucretia was placed alongside the remnants of her old stone by her gg-grandaughter, Dorles L. Repass. At the same time, a memorial stone for Lucretia's husband, Archibald K. (H.) McCorkle, was also placed in Scott Cemetery next to Lucretia's grave side. The new memorial stone for Archibald, was also placed in Scott Cemetery by Dorles L Repass, his gg-grandddaughter.
Married Arch K. McCorkle 12/20/1855.
