Bio

Middle name sometimes is spelled Steven. "Steve" was used as his middle name for his obituary perhaps to avoid choosing one spelling over the other. His middle name probably was chosen to honor his father's oldest brother, William Stephen Boswell, who died young of illness or a disease during or shortly after the Civil War (was a Confederate soldier, b. 1842). The 1866 Alabama state census for the W. J. Boswell household reports two soldiers died from sickness (the other one was William J. himself even though his name was given as head of that household and the report also states that no males aged 20 or over are living in the household). Also, George's great-grandfather was a Stephen Boswell (b. 5 Sep 1790, Bladen Co., NC; wife: Susan/Susannah Wilson). George had two sons with his first wife, Allie Pearl [Blair] Boswell, daughter of Solomon Blair. They were named Wilson Solomon Boswell and Lewis Woodrow Boswell (both now deceased). They were born while Woodrow Wilson was president, but it is possible that the name Wilson may represent a Boswell maternal line. Stephen and Susan [Wilson] Boswell named one of their sons Wilson probably for Susan's maiden name. Since Wilson was a brother to William J. Boswell, he was an uncle to John Wigg Boswell (the father of George Stephen Boswell), so John apparently middle-named one son after that uncle and/or his grandmother's Wilson family. After the early-on Wilson Boswell married Rebecca Bush and then had some children, their branch of the Boswell family moved away to Florida where many of them are buried. Wilson served as a soldier during the Civil War (his widow applied for a Civil War widow's pension through Florida).
