Bio

George was born March 12, 1918, in Colfax County, Nebraska, to Vincent and Stephanie(Klimes)Urban. He attended school at District #40 and Leigh High School for one year. On February 21, 1942, George enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp. He proudly served his country for 39 months, much of it in the European Theater, Africa and the Middle East Theater, including Normandy, Central Europe, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. George earned the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge and the Belgian Croix De Guerre. He held the rank of Technical Sergeant. On November 18, 1947, he married Elda Mae Muhle at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Leigh. He farmed and moved to Leigh in 1983. George loved spending time at the coffee shop with the guys. He was a member of the church and had served on the Building Committee for St. Mary's Church, Coop Board, School Board, Community Club, Knights of Columbus, ASCS Board, FHA, American Legion and VFW. He is survived by his wife, Elda Mae of Leigh, three sons; Dean(Cindy) Urban, Leigh, Bob (Lana) Urban, Seward and Calvin(Laurie) Urban, Leigh, 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Keith, son Kenneth in 1987, two brothers; Ray and Steve Urban and one sister, Palma Kuester.
