Bio

George Ruben Staggs, 86, of North Little Rock passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2005. George was born December 18, 1918 on Lee Mountain near Dover, AR in Pope County to the late Charles and Nora Staggs. He lived in North Little Rock for the passed 48 years and in Arkansas most of his 86 years. George worked for family and friends all his life. He began his work career working on a farm behind a plow in the 1920's and 1930's, mined bauxite and coal in the 1940's, built dams and highway in the 1950's and mined limestone rock in the 1960's. In 1970's and 80's he worked in the maintenance department for the North Little Rock School District where he retired in the late 1980"s He was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Jurcik and two brothers, Charles and Robert Staggs. He served for 30 plus years as a deacon at Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church and in recent years he was a faithful member of First Assembly of God Church where he served as an usher. He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Staggs of North Little Rock; son, Gene Staggs and wife June of Baton Rouge, LA; daughter Marilyn Boyett and husband Frank of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren, Roger Boyett of Tulsa, OK; Melanie Reidy and husband Rev. Shawn of Norman, OK; Jonathan Boyett and wife Amy of Tulsa, OK; Adriane Staggs of Dallas, TX; Stuart Staggs of Atlanta, GA; Sayward Staggs of Little Rock, AR; great-grandchildren, Shawn, Kennedy, Noah and Seth Reidy all of Norman, OK and Andrew Boyett of Tulsa, OK; one sister, Katherine Tate of Knoxville, AR. Funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 7, 2005 at First Assembly of God Church, 4501 Burrow Dr., North Little Rock, AR 72116. Interment will follow at 3 P.M. at North New Hope Cemetery, in Dover, AR. The family will receive friends from 3-5 P.M., Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Roller-Owens Funeral Home (791-7400).
