Elmer Avon “Booster” South, Sr. , 86, of Iuka, Mississippi, died Friday, December 16, 2016, at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. His nickname was given to him the day he was born by his great grandmother, and was his nickname his entire life. He was a lifelong farmer and hard worker, and enjoyed growing all kinds of vegetables. He loved attending singings and guitar playings, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by 2 sons – Elmer South, Jr. (Tracy) and Jacky L. South, both of Iuka, MS; his stepson, Estes R. Brown (Geri) of Fredericktown, MO; 2 daughters – Shelia South Phifer (Donnie) of Tishomingo, MS and Myra South Barnett of Corinth, MS; 2 brothers – Abe South (Gail) of Killen, AL and Talmadge South (Judy) of Iuka, MS; 1 sister in law – Mary Quay South of Tishomingo, MS; 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer B. and Ruby Frances Curtis South; his wife, Lena South; his brother, Travis South, and his sister, Christine Davis. Visitation is scheduled for 4 until 9 PM on Monday, December 19 at Cutshall Funeral Home in Glen. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 PM on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Glen, officiated by Bro. Michael South and Bro. Mike Smith. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Pallbearers include Brad Phifer, Chuck Phifer, Oscar Brown, John Hall, Ben South, and Carl Morris.
