Bio
Paul DeBoard was born November 11, 1907, south east of Anadarko, OK, the son of William David and Emma Lee Jarvis DeBoard. He married Gertrude Bruce Wright in Kingfisher, OK., in 1936. She had a son, Bruce Wright, from an earlier marriage, and Paul helped raise him as father from an early age. Paul and Gertrude were the owners and operators of the DeBoard Produce and Hardware store located on Main Street for over 50 years. The had purchased the store from Mr. and Mrs. Kenzel Protzman. The hardware store was a big part of Verden as you could purchase anything from small and large appliances to feed and seed. Paul also read meters for PSO and was a relief mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office. He was a member and past treasurer of the Verden Town Council and member of the I00F Oddfollows. Paul retired from the hardware store in 1993. They were both active in the Verden First Christian Church. Their home was located on First Street and used to be a boarding house. they were known for their large, beautiful garden and flower beds and they maintained their garden for over 50 years. The family was well known and well liked in the community. Paul passed away March 29, 1994, in Verden.
