Bio

Orvil I. Petersen, 80, of North Bend died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1930, in North Bend to George and Mary (Brousek) Petersen. He grew up in rural North Bend and was a 1947 graduate of North Bend High School. He farmed northwest of North Bend until retiring in 1992. He moved into North Bend in 1978. He served in the Army National Guard from Jan. 8, 1951, to Jan. 7, 1957. He married Rose (Lane) Odermatt on Aug. 19, 1978, in North Bend. She died Jan. 20, 2000. He then married Ella (Nunn) Ford Watt on Feb. 10, 2004, in Fremont. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend and an over 50-year member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3736 of North Bend. He was a member of American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff and a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 200 of Fremont. Survivors include: his wife, Ella; three sons, Lonnie (and wife, Linda) Ford of Pender, Lawrence (and wife, Maggie) Ford and Leander Ford, all of North Bend; a daughter, Linda (and husband, James) Divis of Colon; two sisters, Delores Cech of Schuyler and Dorothy Parr of Dodge; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents;first wife Rose; brother, Leo Petersen, a grandson, Josh Ford KIA in Iraq and a great grandson Francis Fulks. The Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend with the Rev. Donald Clary officiating. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. A vigil service with a Knights of Columbus rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The United States flag will be folded and presented by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8223 and AmVets Post 20 of North Bend and American Legion Post 340 of Morse Bluff. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, near Morse Bluff. Memorials have been established to the North Bend Rescue Squad, St. Charles Catholic Church and the Morse Bluff/North Bend Area Veterans Memorial Park, all at North Bend.
