Bio

This is my maternal great grandfather. I lived with my grandparents, Thomas William and Barbara (Zeocha) Keck, at the time they also had grandma's father, Sylvester Zetocha living with them. I remember him well. Sylvester Zetocha, 77, a resident of the Grand Island community for the last 20 years and former farmer near Weston, died Wednesday afternoon in the home of a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas 'William' (Barbara) Keck, 420 West Division. He had been ill for the last two weeks. Funeral rites will be held at 9:30 o'clock Saturday morning in St. Mary's Catholic Church, where a requiem mass will be offered. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Mr. Zetocha was born Dec. 15, 1898, in Horni Becva, Moravia, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia. In 1903 they emigrated to America and settled near Weston, Neb. The family home was maintained in the Weston community until 1933. At that time, Mr. Zetocha came to this city to make his home. For a period of time he had been employed by the Norden Laboratories here. The last few years, he had resided with Mr. and Mrs. Keck. Mr. Zetocha was a member of the parish of St. Mary's Cathedral. He is survived by two sons, Joseph Zetocha of Lincoln and Sylvester Zetocha, Jr., Densmeir, California; five daughters, Mrs. Frank Kubena, Hibbing, Minn., Mrs. William Keck, Grand Island, Mrs. Steven Rogers, El Paso, Tx, Mrs. Charles Magnuson, Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Albert Gates, Perry, IA; one brother, Louis Zetocha, Omaha; a sister, Mrs. Flip Taylor, Des Moines, IA; 33 grand children and 26 great grandchildren. He was proceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters. The rosary will be recited at 8:15 o'clock Friday evening in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 o'clock Friday Evening. Sylvester and Vera's children not yet listed are: Julia (Zetocha) Rogers Thomas 1904 – 1975 Anna/Anne Marie (Zetocha) Taylor Allenby 1917 – 1989
