Bio

Mother of 15 children. Mrs. Matilda Catherine Smith, 89.long-time Electra resident, died died there Wednesday of last week. Funeral service was conducted Friday in First Baptist Church, with burial in Old Electra cemetery. Born in Arkansas, she had lived in Electra since 1913. Her husband Joe died there in 1922. Survivors include eight sons: L. D. Francis of Kamay, George of Bowie, Earl of Big Spring, Roy of Wichita Falls, Ira of Iowa Park, Ledford of Huntsville, Ark., Joe of Odessa; five daughters: Mmes. Ed Hayes of Iowa Park, Alton Holbrook of Electra, Geo. Shelley of Kermit, Raymond Barnett of Jal, N.M., Arkey Bowen of Midkiff; two brothers: Tom Stanfield of Lubbock, Fred Stanfield of Yuba City, Calif.; 30 grand-, 59 great-grand-, and several great-great-grandchildren.
