Bio

About 1890, Willie Havard ran cattle in the area which in Gulf State Park today. In 1895, Willie was the first recorded Sunday School Superintendent of Perdido Baptist Church. He operated the Perdido General Store for years and for most of that time there had the only telephone in Perdido. The Havards never turned down anyone when they were hungry. Groceries were delivered by wagon pulled by a Angoran goat. The store closed about 1932, and Willie's wife Katie started teaching at Perdido School to support the family.
