Eldridge, Iowa - Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Arnold J. "Jack" Kuta, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2007, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. today at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a Prayer Service today at 4 p.m. that all are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, Iowa Knights of Columbus Perpetual Memorial Society, Society of Former Special Agents of FBI, Inc., Quantico, Va., J. Edgar Hoover Foundation, Eldridge Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Service, or the National Diabetes Association. Jack died suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, February 12, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center West Campus, Davenport, after suffering an abdominal aneurysm. Arnold J. "Jack" Kuta was born October 5, 1924, in Loup City, Neb., a son of Adam A. and Mary Eve (Nosal) Kuta. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Jack graduated from University of Nebraska, Lincoln, on June 5, 1950, with a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in accounting and economics. He was united in marriage to Mary Patricia Griffin on June 6, 1950, at St. Mary's Cathedral, Lincoln, Neb. Mr. Kuta had served as a Special Agent for the FBI for 27 1/2 years, retiring in 1978. He then served as Director of Security at Davenport Bank & Trust Company for five years. Jack was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he served as Altar Server, Lector, Eucharistic Minister and former longtime President of Parish Council. He had been a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Genesis (Mercy) Hospital, Life member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight of Loras Council #532. He was a Life member of 4th Degree Loras General Assembly#260 and served as Faithful Navigator. He served in the Honor Guard as Past Commander and Captain, charter member of Our Lady of the River K of C Council #13084, member of the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Pallbearer Club, nearly 30-year volunteer for the Quad-City Open, a volunteer for the Festival of Trees, and volunteer Election Judge. He was a member of the Society of Former Special Agents of FBI, Inc., (SFSAFBI), Charter member and Chairman of Quad-Cities Chapter of SFSAFBI, former Regional Vice President of North Central Region of SFSAFBI, member of FBI Post #56, American Legion, Life member of University of Nebraska Alumni Association, Life member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Charter and Life member of Quad City Council of Chiefs of Police, Life member of Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police & Peace Officers, Inc., former member and President of Serra Club, and several other organizations. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Pat, Eldridge; and his seven children and their spouses, Mary Joan (Mark) Stutenberg, Cuba City, Wis., Dr. Arnold J. "John" (Suzanne) Kuta, Jr., Richmond, Va., Ann Kuta (and Peter Felitti), Chicago, Ill., Nancy (Thomas) Cunningham, LaGrange, Ill., Robert J. (Nancy ) Kuta, Davenport, Iowa, Susan Kuta, Maplewood, Minn., and Beth A. (Mark) Schaffer, Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Matthew (Loran) Stutenberg and Kevin Stutenberg, Allison and Adam Kuta, Claire and Luke Cunningham, Anna Kuta and Amy Ling Schaffer; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Kay Kuta; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lynne Rozmiarek, Rita and Lee Mendyk, Dolores Dickerson, Marian Novak, Georgia Treadwell and Kathy and Marvin Klaes; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jacque Kuta; and a sister-in-law, Betty Kuta, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, a granddaughter, Katherine "Katie" Cunningham, and a brother, Ernest Kuta, preceded Jack in death. May they rest in peace. (Quad-City Times, Feb. 14, 2007)
