Cowling William Bryant Cowling Sr., 82, a native of Pensacola, Fla., and a resident of Robertsdale, for 72 years, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010. He graduated from Robertsdale High School in 1947 and attended Livingston College, Faulkner Community College, and the University of West Florida. He was employed for 37 years at Monsanto Company in Pensacola, Fla. He was also a farmer in the Rosinton Community for over 63 years. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, he formerly served as chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Staff-Parish Relations of the Rosinton United Methodist Church. He was past chairman of the Rosinton Farmers' Club, a former member of the Belfountain, Tensaw River, and Sportsman Hunting Clubs, an officer of the Civitan Club, and one of the original officers of the Robertsdale High School Band Boosters Club. In 2001, he was inducted into the Robertsdale High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marcita Armistead Cowling, and father, Alex Everett Cowling. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Faye Hankins Cowling; two children, Kathleen Cowling Shumate and William Bryant (Denise) Cowling Jr. of Robertsdale; five grandchildren, the Rev. M.C. "Mikah" (Missie) Hudson Jr., Charity Elizabeth Shumate (Jacob) Jones of Birmingham, Miranda Hope Cowling (Troy) Moore, Lyndsey Marie Cowling, and Brylyn Hayley Cowling of Robertsdale; three great-grandchildren, Maggie Caroline andd Macie-Clair Moore, and Emmalynne Cumi Hudson; and his special little dogs, Tinker Bell, Peter, and Lucy. Visitation will b e held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2 at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3 at Rosinton United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Rosinton Community Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to Rosinton United Methodist Church, Rosinton Community Cemetery, the United Methodist Children's Home, or the American Cancer Society.
