Char was born in Oroville, Ca. on January 4, 1929. On December 15, 2010, she clasped the hand of Jesus Christ to take the final journey to meet her Heavenly Father. When only six years of age, Char became her Dad's tomboy. As she was constantly with him she learned the rudiments of what hard work would bring her in material things. By age fourteen she owned her own cattle horse and had started her own bovine herd. She was raised in the small community of Las Plumas, a PG&E power house unit on the Feather River where she attended a small one room school house. She was the graduating class of one person. She then attended Oroville Union High School where she became a drum majorette for four years. This was an activity that she thoroughly enjoyed. Leading the school band in a parade was most enjoyable. From the time Char entered high school, most of the girls aided the WWII effort by producing medical supplies in vast numbers. Many other schools contributed as well. The use of these supplies was probably responsible for saving the lives of many of our wounded men in hazardous combat. Char met her husband to be, Ken, in 1946 where they both worked in a local movie theatre. They enrolled at Chico State College and decided to marry on June 1st, 1947. The Dennis' were transferred to a theatre in Fort Bragg, CA, where Char gave birth to a beautiful little girl, Kathleen Jill Dennis. Six months later the family moved to another theatre challenge in Healdsburg, CA, where many friends were found. In 1951 they found more friends in Modesto, CA, while taking on the 1700 seat strand theatre-the largest on the Redwood Theatre Circuit. It was a tremendous challenge, but with the fast approaching sell out of National TV, the family took a close look at other means of employment. By a fortunate chance a long time and successful business was found, so Char, Ken and Jill moved to Reno in 1957 to try personal enterprise. The move was a good one, so in Reno they remained to this day. They wanted to participate in local affairs so when Ken was named Director of Reno Rodeo, Char became an associate member. They both became invaluable to the Association. Char enjoyed the activity so much that they acquired a small ranch where they could have riding horses and participate in rodeo horse activities. That led them to become members of the Nevada White Hats; a great riding group. The family also chose to compete on the horse show circuit and showed their horses for 15 years. That activity was very successful as their daughter accumulated enough points in the competition to be named AQHA champion in 1967, a National honor. In addition to her love of horses, Char was employed by the USDA for over 25 years, and was essential to the program as its financial handler. On August 11, 1987, Char's wonderful daughter died of breast cancer, but left her two lovely granddaughters, Christine Gaynor and Cari Gaynor to be loved in her place. Surviving Char is her husband Ken Dennis, granddaughters Christine and Cari Gaynor, and a community that loved her dearly. There will be an open casket viewing at 10:00 am on Sunday, December 19th at Walton Funeral Home, 875 W. 2nd Street in Reno. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations would be kindly accepted to the Northern Nevada Breast Cancer Assoc. in honor of Jill Gaynor. Burial will take place at Cherokee Cemetery in Oroville, California.
