W8APL. Electrical engineer at General Motors Corporation coming to the new GM Technical Center in Warren, Michigan in 1954 from Cleveland, Ohio. Started as an IBEW electrician, becoming an electrical engineer. Bought their home in Warren, Michigan in June 1955. Died at 42 years young. Husband of Catherine (nee Allen) father of Thomas, Robert, Gregory, Karen, son of Clyde and Mary (Nee Gallagher) Cover.Brother of Donna (Deighton) and Marilyn Cover. At one time employed at Cleveland Ordnance Cadillac Tank Plant with his father before move to Michigan. Active in church, community, Boy Scouts of America, Ham Radio operator(Amateur Radio) ARRL, from age of 7 until death. Served US Army Air Force WWII (flew the 'Hump') as a radioman at CBI (China, Burma, India) and Luzon Campaigns. He was also head of the Macomb County, Michigan Civil Defense in the early 1960's based at Martha T. Berry Hospital in Mt. Clemens. Descended from Johann Daniel Kober (wife Maria Eva Eberhard) who came to the new world in 1748 from Manubach, Rhineland, Germany into Great Lower Swamp, Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania and bought land in 1759 in what is now Westminster, Carroll Co., Maryland. Attended Cathedral Latin High School (Society of Jesus, Jesuits) east side of Cleveland through the 11th grade. He did not graduate because he enlisted in the US Army Air Force in August 1941 just before his senior year. He would have graduated in 1942. Following military service he attended University of Miami at Coral Gables, FLA and also Case Western Reserve at Cleveland, Ohio. He was only a few credits shy of completing BS in electrical engineering degree at Case Western. Like most people, with job, marriage, children as time constraints, he had no way to go back and finish his degree. Received a Purple Heart for the injuries he received at CBI.
