My 1st cousin 3x removed He was the son of Rev. George Alfred "Caldwell" B. BRASHEARS and Martha Elizabeth CRENSHAW. He married Bessie Corrine BARBER on 4 Nov 1897 in Staff, Eastland, Texas, USA. Their children together were: Glenn Howard, Eugene Allen, Wilma, Temple, Beal Barber, and Helen BRASHEAR. After Bessie's death John married Laura DANIEL in 1927. John fell in his yard 4 months before his death and broke his hip. He was 91 years old at the time. __________________ EARLY-DAY AREA MERCHANT DIES BAIRD – John Alfred Brashear, 91, early-day west Texas merchant, died at 4 p.m. Sunday in Callahan County Hospital following a lengthy illness. Funeral will be held on Tuesday in the Godfrey Funeral Chapel here with the Rev. S.H. Salley, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside rites will be held on Tuesday in Tahoka. Officiating at those services will be the Rev. Aubrey White. Burial will be under direction of Godfrey Funeral Home. Born on Dec. 26, 1872, in Eastland, he married Bessie Barber, who died in 1925. In 1927, he married Laura Daniel in Tahoka. At the turn of the century, he opened in partnership with the late W.L. Knight a dry goods and grocery store in Eastland. He moved to Tahoka in 1915 where he ran a similar business until 1929. He later ranched for several years in the Sweetwater and Ozona areas. In 1939, he moved to Baird where he operated Brashear Food Store until his retirement in 1958. He was active in Baird's First Methodist Church and served as a church school superintendent and on the official board. He contributed to the founding of Southern Methodist University and McMurry College and maintained a lifelong interest in civic affairs. Surviving are his wife, Laura; two sons, G.H. of Crosbyton and J. Temple of Tahoka; two daughters, Mrs. C.T. Johnson of Plainview and Mrs. E.E. King of Tahoka; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Published in the Abilene Reporter News , September 14, 1964.
