Bio

Mrs. Klepper, 89, of Purcell and Wayne, died at Noble Health Care Center of Alzheimer's disease, with added care and support from Loving Care Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care. Born to Tom and Sadie Sullivan, she grew up on the family farm and dairy in Fitzhugh, OK, and graduated from Fitzhugh High School, in 1939, and East Central State College, Ada, OK, in 1942. Her first teaching position was as business education teacher and coach at Rosedale High School, Rosedale, McClain Co., OK. She married the love of her life, James Melvin Klepper, on July 24, 1943, a U.S. Navy physical instructor, making their first home in Quonset Point, RI. It was during this time in WWII, that Mildred taught two years in the Wayne Public Schools, McClain Co., OK. Upon Melvin's discharge from service, they began a career in the business world in OK; owning a grocery store in Lexington, OK; and in the Ada area: 1951 - 1963, a grocery, service station, dairy, farm, and a trucking business. While in Lexington she served as American Legion Auxiliary President for Frazier Boyd Unit #301. Mildred returned to teaching until 1951 and resumed again in 1961, coaching basketball, and sponsoring the 4-H club in the Fitzhugh Elementary school. She completed Masters in Teaching and Masters in Counseling & Guidance degrees, teaching at all levels with emphasis on the areas of English and Business. Post Masters work at OSU and East Central followed, serving as an adjunct professor for OSU. Instruction years were in McClain, Pontotoc and Garvin counties, 26 years being in the Wayne Public School, and retiring as the school counselor in 1983. In Purcell, M. Klepper Real Estate was established in the late 1970s with Mildred as a Broker until 2000. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 1 brother, Tommy Benton Sullivan, sister, Dorothy Sullivan, and infant baby brother, Charles. Survivors include two sons of Norman, OK, James (Jim) Klepper, Jr. LCDR/USN (Ret) and Tommy Klepper CAPT/USN (Ret); a granddaughter, Kimberly Klepper; 3 grandsons, James III; Tommy, Jr. and Dr. Michael Klepper, MD; 2 great-grandchildren Ezekiel and Jessica; sisters, Lucille York, Betty Denham and Bobby Peters, all of Fitzhugh, OK, Phyllis Sullivan, Tulsa, and Frankye Green, Midland, TX, and sister-in law, Betty Sullivan. Wapanucka, OK. Pallbearers: James III, Tommy, Jr., and Michael Klepper, Richard and Scott Sullivan, and Rob Helleland. Funeral services: December 22 at Wilson-Little funeral Home, Purcell, with Rev. Doyle Sharp officiating.
