∼ Memorial services for Essie Lora Ward, 86, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 in the Centennial Chapel of the Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home. The daughter of the late Ernest and Essie Dukes, Essie was born on Sept. 11, 1928 in Section, Ala. and passed away on Oct. 18, 2014 at her Ardmore residence. She and Ben Ward were married in December of 1978 in Canadian, Texas and he preceded her in death. A resident of Ardmore for the past 31 years moving here from Canadian, Texas, Essie grew up in Samnorwood, Texas where she graduated from high school. After moving to Ardmore, Essie joined the Mary Niblack Baptist Church. She was a homemaker whose hobbies were painting country settings and flowers, needle point, working in her yard growing flowers and was a wonderful cook. Survivors include her two sons: Jim Williams of Ardmore and Rick Williams and his wife Deborah of El Campo, Texas; step-grandkids, Ryan Weed and his family and Darren Weed and his family. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and two sisters. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Ardmore Animal Shelter.
