Bio

Allen Dale Scott, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha. Allen was born Oct. 4, 1933, at Belgrade to Ernest and Shirley (Adamson) Scott. Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Arline Scott. Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Dale and Myrtle Scott of Kellyville, Okla., and Roger and Josie Scott of Grand Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Wayne James of Sapulpa, Okla., Susan and Jerry Finhart of Sapulpa, Okla., and Nancy and Coley Kiser of Columbus; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Dale and Sally Fillinger of Grand Island; daughter-in-law, Marge Fillinger of Grand Island; stepdaughter, Donna Grim of Salt Lake City; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bob Sullivan of Palmer; and brother-in-law, Herman Hess of Santa Rosa, Calif; grandchildren, Sandra McCartney, Terry Kenny, Sasha Hamilton, Tameka Lindsey, Matthew Scott, Forrest and Robin Silkey, Audrey Silkey, Barbra Silkey, Westley and Alice Dennis, Saundra Miller, Carmen Thompson, Justin Thompson, Shawna Thompson, Sam Kiser, Daniel Melgoza and Kelly Melgoza; and seven great-grandchildren. Allen was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Connie Hess; stepson, Donald Fillinger; and granddaughter, Crystal Scott. Allen grew up on a farm near Fullerton, receiving his education at District 18 School; graduating from Fullerton High School in 1951. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fullerton. Allen entered the United States Army of Feb. 18, 1954, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 17, 1956. Allen was married to Winfred June Evans. He was later united in marriage to Arline (Murphy) Fillinger. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Grand Island. Allen was employed by Farmers Union Cooperative for over 20 years and then employed by Monfort, Inc. until his retirement. During most of this time, Allen owned and operated Scotts Hauling.
