December 17, 2009, York News-Times, York, Nebraska Ruth Gonnerman Heine passed away on Dec. 15, 2009 at the age of 102. She was born June 19, 1907, near Gresham, to Jacob and Alma (Decker) Gonnerman. She was confirmed on June 18, 1936 in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Gresham. Ruth graduated from Gresham High School in 1925. She attended York College and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1966. She taught in rural York County schools, and Waco and Hampton Public Schools. In 1974, Ruth was a nominee for the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America. Ruth married Ernest Robert Heine at her parents’ home near Thayer on Oct. 2, 1938. To this union one son was born. Ruth was a life member of the York General Hospital Auxiliary, a member in the York Area Retired Teachers, York Legion Auxiliary, York Country Club Friendship Club and is a member of Faith Lutheran Church in York and an honorary member of their L.W.M.L. Survivors include son, Dean and wife, Kathy Jo (Thayer) Heine of York, two granddaughters: Jenny Gibbs of York and Kerry (Ryan) Hoffschneider of Waco; two grandsons: Kelvin Heine of York, and Russell (Ashley) Heine of Sioux City, Iowa; a great-granddaughter BreeAnna Gibbs of York and a great-grandson Luke Hoffschneider of Waco; and nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband: Ernest Heine, a daughter-in-law: Lorraine (Tonniges) Heine; seven brothers and five sisters-in-law: Albert (Bert) Gonnerman; Jacob (Jack) and Gertrude (Elliot) Gonnerman; Ben (Banker) and Agnes (Coufal) Gonnerman; Jesse (Ted) and Georgia (Eve) Gonnerman; Harry (Dad) and Grace (Hutchinson) Gonnerman; Fritz (Bill) Gonnerman; and her twin brother Raymond (Bud) and Evelyn (Schlueter) Gonnerman; and three sisters and one brother-in-law: Sylvia (Boots) and Carl Mickey; Hazel (Snipes) Gonnerman and Nellie (Myrtle) Gonnerman. Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church in York with the Reverend Allen Bergstrazer officiating. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Thayer at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. on Thursday at Metz. Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
