Marvin John Setlik, 80, of Ord died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord. Marvin was born on Feb. 17, 1930, near Comstock to Henry and Nora (Knopik) Setlik. Survivors are: wife, Virginia of Ord; children, Chuck and Pat Setlik of Loup City, Deb and Kelly Hansen of Ord and Jeff and Michelle Setlik of Grand Island; stepchildren, Shelly Blaha of Ord and Mike Norman of Lincoln; sister, Vivian Turek of Loup City; brother, Ray and Mary Ellen Setlik of Ord; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Setlik and Sharon Arends of Grand Island; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Rose Wozniak of Benedict: grandchildren, Doug and Joy Setlik of Ord, Tim and Becky Setlik of Loup City, Carrie Setlik of Lincoln, Brenda and Colin Lansman of Omaha and Kristen and Colby Setlik of Grand Island; seven stepgrandchildren, Deidre and Aaron Whited, Devan and Kyle Barnes, Dani Blaha, all of Ord, Ciara Mays, Cody Norman, Chistopher Norman, and Sam Salem, all of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Riley and Bailey Setlik of Ord and Brogan and Treven Setlik of Loup City; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Piper and Gavin Whited of Ord, Dominic Barnes of Ord and Kaslyn Mays of Lincoln; and a host of relatives and friends. Marvin grew up on a farm west of Comstock and attended elementary school at Round Park School. In 1946, he graduated from Comstock High School. On April 30, 1951, he married Muriel John at Geranium Catholic Church in rural Valley County. He worked at the Co-Op Station after their marriage until December 1951, when he was drafted into the U.S Army during the Korean War. He completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas before being stationed in Frankfort, Germany. He served as a truck driver and held the rank of Private First Class. In January 1954, he was discharged and returned to his wife and son in Valley County, Nebraska where he farmed near Geranium until December, 1967. He moved his family into Ord and began working for Greenway Implement Company. In August of 1982, he lost his wife Muriel to cancer. After her death he continued to live and work in Ord, while raising his youngest son. In January 1991, he married Virginia Norman in Ord. After 25 years at the John Deere dealership he retired in May of 1992. After his retirement, he enjoyed helping his son and brother with their farms; fishing; restoring tractors; and going to Polka dances. He was a charter member of the Ord Elk's Club; a member of the VFW Post 7029; lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus; and a member of our Lady of Perpetual Help. Marvin was welcomed into heaven by: his parents; wife, Muriel; granddaughter, Brooke Hansen; brothers, Joe and Dan Setlik; stepdaughter, Marla Salem; and brother-in-law, Eugene Turek.
