VETERAN OF WORLD WAR II ~ LLOYD WORKMAN: CLERK Services for Lloyd R. WORKMAN were held Tuesday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Euzoa Bible Church in Steamboat Springs. Officiating was the Rev. Kenneth Sigley. Interment was in the Steamboat Springs Cemetery. Charles and Pat Girton, accompanied by organist Maxine Ohman, sang Face to Face and 'Tis So Sweet To Trust in Jesus. Pallbearers were Harold, Doug and Gerald BOGGS, John SENA, Archie ROBERTS, Merle CHEEK and Bob McCULLOUGH. Lloyd passed away July 24, 1981 at the age of 67 in St. Anthony's Hospital in Denver. He had been hospitalized since May 11 with pancreatitis. Born July 09, 1914 in Comstock, Nebraska, he was the son of Leve and Lilly WORKMAN. When less than a year old, Lloyd came with his parents by covered wagon to New Raymer where they homesteaded. He worked around the farming area until, as a teenager, he started training race horses. While visiting a sister in Steamboat Springs, Lloyd met his future wife, Lorene MILES. He stayed in Steamboat Springs until he joined the Army Fifth Calvary in 1939. Eight days after Pearl Harbor, he and Lorene were married in Baggs, Wyoming. They spent his remaining service time at Fort Riley, near Junction City, Kansas where he was in charge of several stables of horses and the training of men who rode in the cavalry. Prior to leaving service in 1945 Lloyd had attained the rank of staff sergeant. The WORKMANs returned to Steamboat Springs following the war. He worked t various times for Hidy Plumbing, Steamboat Lumber, the City of Steamboat Springs and Furlong Furniture and Appliance. In 1965 he went to work for Boggs Hardware. Although semi-retired several years ago, he continued to work part-time at Boggs until his death. Two children were born to the marriage; Phyllis, while in Junction City, and Leland in Steamboat Springs. Lloyd enjoyed the out-of-doors, especially the hunting and fishing offered in Routt County. Deep sea fishing took him a number of times to Coos Bay, Oregon. Public evident of his deep faith was seen in the two terms he served as trustee of the Euzoa Bible Church. He also served one term as deacon. He is survived by his widow, Lorene; daughter, Phyllis SNOW of Salt Lake City; son, Leland WORKMAN of Silverthorne; two sisters, Edith SNOWDEN of Steamboat Springs and Elsie HENRY of Loveland; one brother, Clyde WORKMAN of Napa, California; five grandchildren; other relatives and friends. At the time of his illness, he was living in the home of Yampa Street which he and his wife had purchased in 1945. The sweetpeas he planted each year were, for years, a landmark of the community.
