DOCUMENT: Wesley Carmichael's Will SOURCE: Monroe County, Indiana, Will Book 5, p. 559. In the name of God, Amen. I, Wesley Carmichael, being of sound mind and knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me heretofore made. Item 1--I will, request and direct that all my just debts, including my funeral expenses and expenses of my last sickness, be paid out of my estate. Item 2--I will, bequeath an devise to my beloved wife, Mary J. Carmichael, all my property, both real and personal, of which I may die seized and possessed and all personal property of whosoever kind, after paying all my debts as provided in Item I in this will, for her sole use and benefit, so long as she remains my widow, with full power to hold same, or if she so desires to sell, convey and dispose of any or all of said property, either real or personal as she may deem best at any time so long as she remains my widow. Item 3--I will and direct that in the event of my widow's remarriage that all of my property remaining in her hands at the time of such remarriage shall after my widow retained her five hundred dollars and one third of any real estate remaining in her hands, shall be equally divided among my children: F. O. Carmichael, Wesley E. Carmichael, Sherlie E. Carmichael, William H. Carmichael, Hershel Carmichael, Clayton Carmichael.
