Julia Pearl Worthen was born on February 13, 1895, to Susana C Worthen, age 40, and James Madison Worthen. Pearl was living in Tupelo, Alabama, in 1900 when the boll weevil devastated nearby cotton fields. She married Jesse Webster Sanders in 1912 in Oklahoma, when she was 17 years old. Her daughter Veta was born on July 22, 1912, in Indianola, Oklahoma. Her daughter Alta Juanita was born about 1915 in Oklahoma. Her son Thomas J was born in Oklahoma. Grandson, Bill Walston, son of Veta, stated she died from milk leg after giving birth to twins that did not survive. He said her family was from Scottsboro, Alabama. Bill also recalls being told she and her parents lived in a tent on Jessie's mom's property around 1904. She died as a young mother on September 15, 1919, in Allen, Oklahoma, at the age of 24, and was buried there. http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/milk+leg
