The Carnegie Herald, April 1950 Dave Smith Rites Are Tuesday P.M. In Pitcher Chapel Services were in the Pitcher chapel Tuesday afternoon for W.D. Smith, 74, and burial was in the Carnegie cemetery. Rev. Frank Elkins, Baptist pastor, conducted the service and pitchers were in charge of arrangements. "Uncle Dave" died early Sunday morning in a Clinton hospital where he had been the past three weeks after being severely injured in a fall at his home here three weeks ago. He had been in failing health the past three years. William Dave Smith was born in Polk county, Ark., June 5, 1876. As a young boy he came with his parents to the Indian Territory and at the age of 14 began work as a cowboy on the old Suggs ranch. He later worked for the Burnett outfit and the Pitchfork ranch before locating in Hobart in 1907. On Oct. 22, 1914, he was married to Mrs. Emma Polly in Hobart. Mr. and Mrs. Smith moved to Carnegie in 1925 where they have since lived. For several farmers he worked as ice delivery man. Survivors are his wife, Emma Smith of the home; two step-sons, Jess Polly of this place and George Polly of Anadarko; his grandchildren and other relatives. Among relatives and friends from out of town here for the services were Mrs. Frank McHenry, Mr. and Mrs. John McHenry, Joe McHenry and Mrs. Faye Buchanan of Hinton; Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Crocker, Hobart; Mrs. Maude Dorman, Oregon; Hobart Sharp of LosAngeles, and Mr. and Mrs. Max Rozzell of Vernon, Texas.
