Independence, MO - Barbara Jean Hufford, 69, Independence, passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Maywood Terrace Living Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5609 Norfleet Road, Kansas City, Mo. Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Barbara was born Aug. 19, 1941 in St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Benjamin and Imogene L. (Blanton) Abbott, Sr. She had served as a social worker at the former Charlie Parker Center. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Barbara was a devoted soap opera fan and enjoyed painting. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve Hufford in 1993; sister, Carolyn Abbott; and brothers, Ronald C. and Benjamin Abbott, Jr. Survivors include her four daughters, her son, 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, and three brothers. - The Examiner (Independence - Blues Springs - Grain Valley, MO) October 30, 2010
