Funeral services for Billy D. Sullivan, 78, Durant, who passed away Friday, July 15, 2005, at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas, will be held in the Brown's Funeral Service Chapel today at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Mervin Redwine will officiate. Billy D. was born December 25, 1926, in Umpire, Arkansas, to Joseph Calvin (Burley) Sullivan and Eltha (Baber) Sullivan. He finished school in the U.S. Navy and attended Southeastern Oklahoma University receiving a Bachelor's Degree. He was a rural mail carrier for 32 years. Billy was married to Lela Hughes, who preceded him in death, and later married Martha Sullivan. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bokchito. He also belonged to the Big Creek Flying Squirrels Club. Billy was known all over Oklahoma and other parts of the country for his dedication and leadership in the Masonic Lodge. He began his apprenticeship in May of 1948 with the Masonic Lodge 253 in Bokchito and was a dedicated member until his death. He passed to Fellowcraft in June of 1948, and on to Master Mason in August of 1948. Billy became one of the few 33rd degree Masons in southern Oklahoma, and served many offices up to his death. These offices included Junior Steward, Senior Deacon, Senior Warden, Worshipful Master, secretary, treasurer, Junior Grand Warden, Senior Grand Warden, Deputy Grand Master, Grand Master, Constitution & Code, Youth Activities, and Directional Planning. His leadership and dedication, for over 57 years, to the Lodge and community activities will be greatly missed. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and first wife Lela (Hughes) Sullivan. He is survived by his wife Martha of the home; daughters Martha Ann Cole and husband Robert of Sapulpa and Brenda Kay Gracy of Sherman, Texas; stepsons James Brame and wife Elena of Denison, Texas, and Joel Brame and wife Juda of St. Louis, Missouri; granddaughters Amy Anthony and husband Matt of Oklahoma City and Jonna Kay Maitland and husband Heath of Sherman; grandsons Davin Dee Wayne Gracy of Sherman and Jared Cole of Sapulpa; great-grandson Levi Heath Maitland of Sherman; sister Barbara Ann Fricke of Sherman; brothers Charles E. Sullivan, Howard Sullivan, Joe Sullivan and John Sullivan. Many other relatives and a host of friends. Interment will be in the Bokchito Cemetery with Davin Gracy, Heath Maitland, David Houston, James Rich, Cameron Houston, Charles W. Sullivan, Bradley Sullivan, and Eron Houston serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Raymon Haddix, Dean Swiney, Charles E. Sullivan, Howard Sullivan, Joe Sullivan, John Sullivan, and members of the Masonic Lodge 253 in Bokchito. Condolences may be sent to the family at [email protected] .
