LaVerna L. Gydesen, 91, of Scotia died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul. LaVerna was born July 15, 1919, in Greeley County to J.Y. and Esther (Siekmann) Sautter. LaVerna was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Gydesen, and daughter, Marjorie Ann Gydesen. Survivors are: daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Henry Hinkle of Arvada, Colo.; sister, Norma Vrana of Phoenix; grandchildren, Marjorie Hinkle and James Hinkle; great-grandchildren, Charisse Marie and Chance Matthew Hinkle and a host of friends and relatives. LaVerna spent her childhood on a farm with her parents in Wallace Creek. LaVerna attended Fish Creek School through the 10th grade then helped her father on the farm. On Nov. 12, 1939, LaVerna was united in marriage to Fred Gydesen at her parent's farm in Fish Creek. The couple spent their married lives on several farms in Greeley County. In 1975, they sold their farm and moved into Scotia. Mr. Gydesen passed away on May 1, 1987. LaVerna continued to make her home in Scotia until she moved to the Heritage Living Center in St. Paul in May of 2010. LaVerna was a member of the Scotia Baptist Church. She received Christ as her savior when she was 14 years old, she loved her Lord. LaVerna played the guitar and sang in church for many years. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School for over 20 years. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Louise Voorhees. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 10/26/2010
