Richfield Reaper, The (UT) - December 9, 2009 Deceased Name: Kerry Barney ----- MONROE - Kerry Newell Barney, 71, Monroe, passed away Dec. 2, 2009, in Richfield. He was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Richfield, to Angus William and Millie Maebelle Colby Barney. He married Tonia Kay Chavez June 30, 1961, in Ely, Nev. He worked many years for Kennecott Copper as a bricklayer and in the maintenance department. He most recently worked in the maintenance department with Sevier School District. He loved his family, gardening and being in the mountains. His survivors include his wife, Monroe; children, Joe (Robyn) Veater, Salt Lake City; Jerry Kay (Caroline) Veater, Richfield; Carrie Lynne (Kerry) Roberts, Salina; Victor Blake Barney, Renton, Wash.; Cindy LaMae Barney, Redmond; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Madeline Gleave, McGill, Nev.; Yvonne (Bert) Bulkley, Aurora; Blake (Dianne) Barney, Richfield; Marilyn Christensen, Escalante. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Verlynn Barney; sisters, Donetta Allred, Yvonna Barney. Funeral services were held Dec. 7, in the Monroe LDS 5th ward chapel, with Bishop Greg Abbott officiating. Compassionate services included a luncheon. A family prayer was offered by Bert Bulkley, and the invocation was offered by Lance Snow. Prelude and postlude music was performed by Lynnette Peterson. Musical selections included "Silver Haired Daddy," by Blake Barney; "Grandpa," by Diane Barney; and "Just Beyond The Moon," a recorded selection by Tex Ritter. A poem was shared by Veronica Marsh. Speakers included Kent Chavez, Joe Wilkinson, Cindy Barney and Joe Veater. Closing remarks were given by Greg Abbott. The benediction was provided by Clark Gleave. Serving as pallbearers were J.R. Crafts, Jason Veater, Brandon Crafts, Ryan Wallace, Jeffery Crafts, Luke Wallace, Cassidy Powell and Russell Winn. Military rites were accorded by the Utah National Guard Honor Guard. Cremation services took place. Funeral directors, Magleby Mortuary, Richfield, Salina and Manti.
